Michelle Allan: Hi! My name is Michelle Allan. I moved to Savannah from Birmingham, AL in 2008. I'm married to Matthew and together we have two children, Lila and Rafi. I love to travel, cook and play games. I have degrees in Early Childhood and Elementary Education and hold advanced certificates in Reading and Urban Education. I am on the Board of Directors for the Jewish Educational Alliance. I have been involved in education for over 10 years and Jewish education for 8. I've taught preschool, kindergarten and first grade in the past, and now I stay home with my children. I love working in Jewish Education! Judaism fascinates me. I love being Jewish, and I love to share that with my students!
Penny Breslow: For anyone who does not know me already, my name is Penny Breslow, and I have been teaching at Shalom School (Sundays and Midweek Hebrew) since I moved here in 2003 from Sioux Falls, SD, where we lived for 13 years (my husband Lonnie is a native of SFSD). I am a native So. Floridian, one of the reasons we moved back this way, so I could be closer to my family in Florida. I am currently retired from the SCCPSS as a Paraprofessional. My degree is in Court Reporting and Administration, however for the past 15 years or so, I have worked with children as a Co-Youth Group Advisor, Teacher, Hebrew/B'nai Mitzvah Tutor and Mentor. This has truly been a passion-of-love for me as a change-of-life career. I especially enjoy learning more about Judaism everyday and imparting this knowledge to my students. In my free-time, I usher with my husband at the Lucas and Johnny Mercer Theatres as well as for the Sav. Music Festival each year. I also love all "the arts", Yoga, hiking, playing golf (although I am terrible at it), traveling, and recently started to study the Hebrew language more in depth (which I am discovering is much more of a challenge than I thought it would be).
Amanda Barker: I started working for Shalom School as a teacher's aide 17-years-ago. I've been a teacher's aide, administative assistant, office manager, and teacher over the years. I am currently a substitiute teacher for the public school system. I have a Bachelor's of Infomation Technology from Armstrong and I love technology.
Matthew Allan: Matthew Allan is starting his second year as a Shalom School teacher, joining his wife Michelle on the teaching staff. Matthew holds B.S. and M.B.A. degrees and is a broker with Keller Williams Realty, focuses on infill construction and renovation in downtown Savannah. His two children will be attending Shalom School, and his wish is that his students come away with a meaningful experience from his class.
Danielle Dysch: Hello! My name is Dani and I am the new Hebrew Tutor this year for the Shalom School. I'm a freshman starting at S.C.A.D. For the last 2 years of high school I was a teacher's assistant at Temple Beth El in Boca Raton, Florida. I have taught children from 7 to 12 years old, some at the same time since we had a mixed class. I used to go to Hebrew day schools, until about 4th grade, so I am well versed in all the prayers, Hebrew reading. I love to do art, learn history, and obviously I love Hebrew too!
Yakira Oudmayer: I am currently a fashion design student at SCAD. I was born in South Africa and moved to Charlotte, North Carolina when I was eight and have lived there ever since. I attended a Jewish up until the eighth grade. I was a substitute teacher at Charlotte Jewish Preschool and a counselor at Camp Katan (Jewish preschool camp). I spent a year in Israel before coming to Savannah where I was an assistant in a Jerusalem kindergarten. I love working with kids and teaching judaic subjects! I hope to make the students experience at Shalom School a fun and worthwhile one!
